Hi Guys, I’m Greg from VIP SEO Services https://www.seoblog.vip/
Today, I’ll be showing you how you can install WordPress,
Locally on your Ubuntu Operating System.
Now, Why would you want to Install WordPress locally?
Normally, if you want to build a wordpress site, you would
need to buy domain and hosting, and then launch your live website.
But if you don’t want to launch a website yet, and just want to test wordpress and try out different themes and plugins you can do that by watching this video.
When you install wordpress locally all your website’s files, themes and plugins will be stored on your computer, and this means only you will be able to access your website from your PC instead of having to log in to an account on the internet.
Once again, this is a great way for you to learn and experiment with WordPress without having to buy a domain or go through a hosting company.
Also, in future videos, we will use the same install to test WordPress plugins and themes.
Once you’ve built your WordPress site locally, you can make it portable and move it to your hosting company or even sell it – I’ll show you how you can do that in future videos so click subscribe and don’t forget to give me a thumbs up if you find this information useful!
And now, let’s install WordPress locally on Ubuntu.
You can use any flavor of Ubuntu you want – Kubuntu, Ubuntu or Xubuntu – these are the 3 major flavors and this should also work for most Ubuntu derivatives.
Installing WordPress on Ubuntu is going to be totally free
and we’re going to do it in just a few simple steps!
First, we’re going to download a software called Bitnami WordPress, install it on Ubuntu and this is the software that is going to allow us to run WordPress on our computer.
So to download it, let’s open our browser and go to
https://bitnami.com and select App Catalog from the menu.
There are several choices to choose from like Drupal, Joomla, etc. but we are going to select the first one – WordPress.
The next page ask you to choose your deployment strategy, we will select Win/Linux/Mac under ‘On My Computer’, then just scroll down a bit and select ‘Download for Linux 64-bit’ under the little Linux penguin.
You will get a pop up to sign in with a social media account, just select the ‘No thanks’ link at the bottom to get the download. In future videos we will sign up and do cloud deployment with different apps just to get our feet wet, but for now let’s just stick to our main objective…
Your download dialog will then pop up and simply click the ‘save’ button and now we are done with downloading our Bitnami Ubuntu Local Installer program.
So the Bitnami software is downloaded!
Now, let’s install Bitnami WordPress.
Let’s right click on the file we downloaded, and select the ‘Permissions’ tab, then select ‘Is Executable’ for the file we’ve downloaded then, click ‘OK’.
Now keep clicking ‘next’ till you reach this page
and we need to enter the login details of our local WordPress site. So enter your name, email address and then the username and the password for WordPress.
Make sure you remember these details as you’ll be needing this
to login into your local WordPress site.
Once you’re done, keep clicking next until you reach Finish and WordPress will be installed.
Your preferred browser will automatically launch and it will take you to the local Bitnami Welcome Page. Now to access your site, you just have to click ‘Access WordPress’. So let’s click that.
And as you can see, our WordPress site is now running on our Ubuntu PC.
You can access your site anytime by going to “localhost/wordpress” on your browser or “localhost” to access the welcome page.
Now to login to wordpress, you just add “/login” or “wp-admin” and, it will take you to the login page of wordpress.
You can now login, by entering the details that you gave during the installation.
So, once you’ve logged in, you can start building your website.
By default your WordPress Install does not run on boot so if you ever need to start WordPress after rebooting your PC then follow these steps:
1. Go to your install folder located in the home directory.
2. Click ‘manager-linux-x64.run’ script.
3. In the dialog box that launches, select ‘Run Apache and MySQL Server’
4. Once you get 2 green lights , select the launch button and your preferred browser will open to the Bitnami WordPress Welcome Screen.
And that is how you Install WordPress locally on your Ubuntu PC to build your website.
Once you’ve completed building your website you can then move it to a live website, which will be posted in the following week, where we show you how you can move from local host to web host.
So that’s it!
